As LaRue and I travel throughout the United States and beyond, I am always interested in the history of places. And part of one's history is the expression of faith, namely in the churches or cathedrals that represent the people.
Here are examples of faith from the places we have visited.
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

This is the Mission of the Sacred Heart in Idaho's Cataldo State Park, Coeur d'Alene. This structure was built between 1848 and 1853, carefully woven of straw, mud and saplings, using a method called "wattle and daub". It has been lovingly restored with many original items intact.

Ft. Steele Heritage Town, Canada, was a mining boomtown in the 1890's. The buildings have been restored and costumed townsfolk replay the drama of western life during the gold rush. St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, pictured here, was opened in 1897. Father Coccola, one of the best known priests in the area, was involved in the negotiations between Sam Steele and the Kootenay Indians in 1887.
St. George's in the Pines Anglican Church, Banff.

This church is known for its unique stained glass windows, featuring area wildlife woven into the Biblical scenes.

Jasper Lutheran Church

This quaint church is nestled in the woods in the town of Jasper. On any given day, elk and bears will come in and feed on the flowers and grasses near the building. We were in Jasper on a Sunday and a sign was posted on the door to go down the street to the Baptist church for morning service!
