Conference News

As Representatives of his Greater Works Ministry, we are affiliated with several associations and attend annual conferences as we are able. Examples of those associations are Grace Evangelical Society, which holds regional conferences several times a year, and Free Grace Alliance, which meets annually in the Fall.

This year we chose to attend the Annual Grace Conference at the Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church in Lake Zurich, Illinois. We were directed to this conference by Friends of Israel.

  • Grace.. God's Message to the World

    July 24-25, 2008

This Conference, hosted by Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church in Lake Zurich, Illinois, is billed as a "Church Leadership" conference. For two days, however, the leadership of that church rolled out its red carpet for the hundreds of participants who came to hear the likes of Dr. Robert Lightner and Dr. Charles Ryrie.

Dr. Robert Lightner was the first plenary speaker on Thursday. He spoke on "Identification with the Infinite" from Ephesians 1:1-14. He reminded us that a) we have been released from the control of the sin nature; b) we have been identified with Christ's redemptive work; and c) we have been united with God for service to Him.

Dr. Lightner is a very special friend and mentor. We were privileged to spend some time with him.

  • Additional Speakers

Dr. James Scudder, pastor of Quentin Road Church, was the speaker for the evening plenary session. Dr. Scudder spoke on "If Salvation was Expensive It would be Easier to Sell." He was answering the argument put forth by John MacArthur in his book, "Hard to Believe," in which he contends there must be more to salvation than "just believing" in Jesus.

Friday morning Dr. Larry Moyer, whose ministry is EvanTell, gave a compelling talk on "How to Overcome Fear in Sharing the Gospel." His text was Ephesians 6:18-20 in which Paul asked the Ephesians to pray for him for utterance and boldness. Dr. Moyer challenged us to pray for each other.

After lunch on Friday we heard from Dr. Ron Seecharan, Founder and President of Solid Rock International Ministries. He has the Solid Rock Theological Seminary in India and participates in debates on university and college campuses. His challenge was to answer the question, "What About the Heathen?" We were reminded that God has given general revelation to the world and that man has always had the free will to choose or reject that revelation.

  • "He Needs No Introduction..."

That is how Dr. Scudder introduced Dr. Charles Ryrie as the final speaker of the Conference. Who hasn't heard of the Ryrie Study Bible? What a joy it was to listen to this aged man of God speak so fondly of the Lord Jesus.

His text was Matthew 17:24-27, the story of the coin in the mouth of the fish. From that text he brought out three points: the Lord owns everything; the Lord controls everything; and the Lord serves everyone.

Workshops

I should add that we had four opportunities to choose from dozens of wonderful workshop speakers, two each day. The topics were varied and everyone was able to find something of interest to their particular ministry. We will receive a CD containing audio of every workshop so that nothing will be missed.

Icing on the Cake

The Conference was capped off with a magnificent Elegant Gourmet Buffet that was prepared and served by the Culinary Arts Ministry at Dayspring Bible College.

We feasted on fresh seafood, chicken breast, marlin, pasta, roast beef, potatoes, and miles of gourmet pastries and gelato.

After dinner we attended a gospel concert by the singing group Greater Vision who rocked the house with Gaither-like songs of praise!

What a way to end two days of renewal and refreshing.
